Over the past four months, we have gone through a growth spurt driven by new partnerships and an accelerating demand for AlphaSeq data to fuel therapeutic development. Introducing the newest members of the A-Alpha Bio team!
Ryan Emerson, VP of Data Science: Ryan earned his PhD in Genome Sciences at the University of Washington before starting at Adaptive Biotechnologies as a Postdoc. He participated in the company’s rapid growth over the course of over eight years, and ultimately built and led the Antigen Map Project, in which Adaptive and Microsoft set out to jointly learn how to “read” the immune system for disease diagnosis. During his time at Adaptive, he earned is MBA at the UW’s Foster School of Business. Ryan is now using his expertise in sequencing, proteomics, and computational analysis to build and optimize A-Alpha Bio’s data science pipeline. He is an avid chef and baker, and especially enjoys cooking with his wife and kids.
Bobby Carouthers, Director of Finance and Operations: Bobby earned his MBA from the University of North Carolina, with a focus on finance and entrepreneurship. After completing his degree along with hands-on venture capital experience at B37 Ventures, Bobby joined portfolio company Clara Foods as Senior Finance Manager, where he helped to orchestrate a successful Series B financing and took on responsibilities spanning finance, human resources, and operations. Bobby is using these broad experiences and strong finance background to support all non-lab aspects of company building at A-Alpha Bio. In his free time, Bobby enjoys traveling with his wife, reading books, and playing chess and video games.
Daniel Guion, Research Associate: Daniel recently graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelors of Science in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. While at UW, he developed his molecular biology skills as a Research Assistant in the Yadav Lab, characterizing kinase-mediated neurodevelopment and disease. Daniel then worked as a Research Associate at Good Therapeutics, where he gained expertise in next generation sequencing and working with DNA libraries. In his free time, Daniel enjoys exercising, cooking, raising indoor plants, and folding proteins on Foldit.
Colleen Shikany, Research Associate: Colleen also graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelors of Science in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. While attending UW, she worked as a Research Assistant at the Seattle Children’s Center for Integrative Brain Research. There, Colleen became comfortable in a high-stakes lab environment and built a strong molecular biology foundation. Outside of the lab, Colleen enjoys hiking and testing her cooking skills!
Both Daniel and Colleen are contributing to the production team by executing and optimizing workflow related to the AlphaSeq platform for drug discovery.
